Born on October 16, 1941
Tim McCarver debuted with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1959 at the age of 17. A fine defensive catcher and a dangerous hitter, McCarver became a mainstay on the great Cardinals teams of the 1960s. An All-Star in 1966 and 1967, he played in four decades before retiring in 1980 and moving to the broadcast booth. Known for his keen insight and expert analysis, McCarver worked for all four major television networks, and called 24 World Series from 1985 to 2013. A best-selling sports author as well as an Emmy-winning announcer, Tim McCarver won baseball’s Ford C. Frick Award in 2012 and was enshrined in the broadcaster’s wing
of the Hall of Fame.
